Did you know Colorado is home to the fourth most influential cleantech VC cluster in the U.S.? Studies suggest that Colorado is THE leading entrepreneurial epicenter (particularly for females and millennials) and leader in cleantech research. Here at PeakChange, our interest in the environment and cleantech dates back to Jim’s college days when he worked on wind turbine projects in the 1980s. (Seriously…we're going to scan it so that you can read his college paper)
Last week we received a lot of amazing news about Aravaipa Ventures, one of our local Colorado impact funds, that we couldn’t wait to share.
But before we celebrate, let’s tell you a little big more about Aravaipa, so you can get excited too.
Robert Fenwick-Smith founded Aravaipa, an investment firm focused on funding companies that create disruptive technologies designed to make global environmental impacts. Impact Technology areas include transportation efficiency, building efficiency, water resources, and smart agriculture. Since 2008, Aravaipa invests only in companies that require an additional $10M in funding to reach profitability and focuses on enterprises within the Colorado community to ensure that Aravaipa managers can work most effectively with entrepreneurs and CEOs. Who and why are we celebrating?
Colorado CleanTech Industries Association (CCIA) honored Aravaipa portfolio company Waste To Energy Partners by awarding it as the Breakout Cleantech Company of the Year. And, CCIA named Andrew Coors, CEO of Aravaipa portfolio company Steelhead Composites, as the Colorado Cleantech Entrepreneur of the Year.
Tim Reeser is Managing Director at Aravaipa and President/Co-Founder of Lightning Hybrids. He pitched Lightning Hybrids at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) Industry Growth Forum, a venue considered to be the most prestigious cleantech venture competition in the U.S. Aravaipa was thrilled to have received the Silver Bullet win at NREL in 2012. Today, Tim and his team can pop the corks again, because Lightning Hybrids won NREL’s award as Best Venture of the Year for 2015.
Congratulations to everyone! It’s time to start building a trophy room.
